I would like to thank everyone that took the time to doing us for last night’s AoR Annual General Meeting. I pleased to confirm that enough people attended to enable us to vote in the new committee members and to take proposed action points forward.
I will be updating the committee members on the website but I would like to welcome Leza Paul as Catering Officer and also Jonathan Spicer as Tournament Officer. I wish you both well in these positions and I look forward to working with you both over the coming twelve months.
Although a couple of attendees voiced interest in some of the remaining positions following the meeting, the meeting was closed with the position of Records Officer unfilled and ideally another equipment officer being required. The club is also looking for another couple of coaches and a steering group for senior liaison to arrange archery and non-archer events for the seniors. Simon Wright frequently volunteers to help with coaching and I was grateful to John Marshall for also offering help as and when needed. Support from our Associate Members is always very welcome and I appreciate those peoples time especially as they often have commitments to their own clubs as well. However, I would welcome more of our main members coming forward to hold one of these positions.
Mick will no doubt circulate the minutes of the meeting over the coming days (time permitting) and I would urge all AoR members to review them when received. Please note that I have given a full 12 months’ notice of my intention to stand down as Chairman at the end of this financial year and I will welcome discussion with any shooting member who would like to entertain or simply consider the position. Being Chairperson is not an onerous position and it is very rewarding. I chose to forgo shooting to dedicate my time to building up the club as it was not looking to be in a good position 12 months ago. In addition, I personally get more reward from helping new members thank shooting myself. Taking the Chairperson role does NOT mean that you will also need to give up shooting for a time.
Finally, I’d like to thank each and every person that has stepped up to form the AoR committee for the year 2013-14, or who has offered help in some way. I have a great team around me and together I hope that we will continue to take the club to new heights and make is a stronger club and a better place for people to shoot, be they members, associate members or visitors.
