NCAS have a successful day at the Sydney Bond

2012 Sydney Bond Tournament NCAS Archery Squad

Sunday 22ndJuly 2012 found Lauren and Katie shooting for Northants County Archery squad as part of the Recurve team shooting for the Sydney Bond trophy, something that has eluded the team for far too long and the whole team were keen to try their best.  The Sydney Bond is an invitation only shoot where the county captain selects up to eight archers (needing both male and female archers) and from those the top five scores would count towards the teams overall score.  There is also a competition for Compound archers and NCAS put forward their best three compound archers.

The shoot was to take place up in Lincoln, so it was an early start for most of the team but the weather was good to us with a sunny day, although there was a gusty tail wind that pushed most people low throughout the day.  Lauren has been struggling with 60 yards (Bristol II) but she kept good groups, although low on the boss at 60 and then she put in a very strong finish, despite a broken long rod – a character building day.  Katie had a strong shoot and matched her personal best for the Bristrol III – well done Katie.

Anyway, the end result was a brilliant second place for the recurve archers.  Northants shot an impressive team total of 3744, beating Nottinghamshire by 301 points and loosing to Lincolnshire by just 96 points.  I believe that this is the best that Northants have finished in the tournament and I look forward to the team going the one step better next year.

The Compound team had a tough fight with Derbyshire but managed to post a team score of 3744, just 6 points ahead of Derbyshire and Josh Hall (NCAS Compound Archer took away the highest junior boy compound score trophy).

The Sydney Bond is an inter-county invitation only tournament contested this year by Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire (Northants), Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Rutland and Derbyshire.
