At AoR’s AGM last Monday, I found myself volunteering for the position of chairman as Tony (the outgoing chairman) had fulfilled his tenure and was ready to mass on the mantle. With the usual silence from the members at the offer for replacements and with the club’s constitution demanding the position is filled, I threw my hat into the ring and was quickly proposed and seconded – Oh boy what have we all done!!!
Work pressures have kept me from getting into the position this week (something that does concern me going forward as work will come first), but I intend to bring myself up to speed as quickly as possible and I hope to work tirelessly to improve the club and continue the good work of previous chair people. I am also grateful to my committee colleagues who volunteered to fill other committee positions, not least Geoff Denny (Vice Chair), Mike Bowerman (Secretary) and Heather Bayliss, who will stay on as our diligent and highly capable treasurer.
I am looking forward to working with the new committee over the coming months and I will welcome any comments about the running of the club (both good and bad). It is these comments that will be the driving force behind taking the club to a new level and a new era of prosperity – I hope and trust. So why this blog?
As many of you will know, I am a workaholic and I am frequently kept extremely busy at work (working silly hours sometimes) and with two teenage daughters, Joanna and I are always busy. This blog will form a ‘personal’ communication channel between myself and all AoR members. It will be used to share searchable news items, successes, concerns and committee activities (supporting the communications from the secretary and others) and other snippets of information that I think are worth sharing with club members.
Well that’s it for now. I’ll be posting to this blog in an irregular manner (as and when I have something to share), so please use one of the notification options (top right of the blog) to receive email or RSS notification of new postings and comments people are leaving.
